Sending out birth announcements should be a fun and special thing for every new mom. It is a great way to celebrate the arrival of your little baby (or babies!) with all of your friends and family. Here are a few little things to think about as you get ready to select and order your baby announcement cards for your little boy, baby girls, twins or multiples.
1) How long after the birth of your child do you wait to send out the cards? I know some woman have the envelopes addressed before they leave for the hospital and others wait 4-6 months. It doesn’t matter. Even though everyone wants to hear the good news, send out your baby announcements when you are ready, not a day sooner.
2) What sort of design do you want on your birth announcement cards? Some people like modern birth announcements, while others prefer more traditional baby announcements. I am sure you will find a design (or many designs) that will just speak to you. You will find some that will have more images, colors and bold type on the cards and other baby announcements will be much simpler. There is something for everyone.
3) Do you want to combine your baby announcement with another card? If you are looking for ways to save a little money, think about combining your baby announcement card with your Christmas or holiday cards. That is what I did! You can also combine your birth announcements with your thank you cards. Just be sure to select a card that gives you ample space to write a little note. You can thank your family members for the baby gifts and share the baby news at the same time. You will save a stamp!
4) Do you want to include a photograph? I am 100% all for including a photograph of the baby. Who doesn’t want to see your new baby? There are some very very cute baby announcements without photos so I can see why people select those too.
5) If you are going to use a photo here are a few more items to consider.
- Do you want to simply use a photo of the baby or do you want to include other family members? Sometimes it is nice to include siblings in the photo so they can be part of the baby announcement and feel special. I know I did not want my photo taken after giving birth so I was happy not to be in the picture going out to all of my nearest and dearest friends….
- Do you want the photograph to be black and white or in color? A lot of times the design of the card will dictate what sort of picture you will use. If you know you really want to send out a color photo in your birth announcement, just remember that when you are looking at cards. Some people may photograph their baby in a color that matches the card they have chosen, or vice versa, will find a card that matches an outfit you have the baby in.
- If you want to use a photograph from a professional photographer for your baby birth announcement, be sure to discuss this up front. You will need to be able to get a digital photograph from the photographer. Also, some photographers may not even let you use it on a card. Just be sure to ask up front so you don’t get any bad news after the fact. You want to ensure you are able to capture and use the perfect shot of your child for a memorable baby announcement.
Baby Announcement Wording
In case you are looking to create your own baby announcement, or simply want to adjust the wording on a pre-designed birth announcement card, I wanted to share a few different ideas on how to announce the arrival of your little angel(s). Be sure to include your child’s full name and date of birth. As a popular option you can also include your child’s height and weight or even the color of her eyes. Many people love knowing those special little details. Here are some baby announcement wording examples to consider:
