Petunia Pickle Bottom

I grew up in Ventura, California which was for a very long time not much more than a small beach town. I think most people in Los Angeles think that Ventura is just that place you drive through on your way to Santa Barbara. Locals have forever been proud to say that Patagonia has its headquarters in Ventura.  I can tell you that we are also super proud of another cool company, Petunia Pickle Bottom. Season after season they continue to create gorgeous products – really well made in such wonderful colors, patterns and textures. You may not know that they have extended their product line to include crib bedding, slings, and baby clothes. I don’t know the people who work there (though I think one of the founders is a cousin of a friend of a friend from elementary school) but I just wanted to give a shout out to a really creative company that makes me proud of my home town.

Bachelor Jake – Episodes 3 & 4

bachelor jake

Last week’s episode was a total downer – I really had nothing to say about it except that nobody looked like they were having any fun. Tonight’s episode was so much better.  I am totally biased because I love the Madonna Inn, I love Big Sur and I live 1 mile from Villa Montalvo where they filmed the rose ceremony. Yeah of my little town of Saratoga! Kudos to the location scouts.  I also like the fact that he just gets rid of girls instead of stringing them along – not that I agree with all of his choices…

Sweet Peas & Stilettos in the Saratoga News.  Shannon Burkey wrote a fun article about the site – thanks Shanon! As you can see my family room is a complete and total mess.  My shoes are these cute silver sequined flats from Old Navy. I wish you could see how much they sparkle…

Walking Shoes

I am a walker. It would take a ravaging fire or a very very very scary boogie man to get me to jog, let alone run. A few months ago I finally broke down and got these weird looking shoes. I have to admit I was a bit embarrassed – they just weren’t cute. I quickly grew to love them.  I just bought my mom a pair and she loves them too.

A little tip. I used to walk around barefoot all the time at my house. The only shoes I ever wore were my Havaianas flip flops or maybe Crocs. We have slate floors throughout much of our home and after a while my heels were always hurting. I’ve started wearing these Skechers Shape Ups as my house shoes and they have done wonders. Get a pair, wear them around the house and then one day you’ll forget you have them on and suddenly you’ll be bouncing all over the grocery store in them.  You’ll never look back. Super Mom can not live by her Jimmy Choos alone…

Donate Breast Milk

human milk bank

There are a number of international and local programs that coordinate the collection, storage and distribution of breast milk as a safe alternative for children who do not have access to their own mother’s milk. HMBANA is a great resource to learn more. From their website it looks like they are coordinating with many organizations responding to the disaster in Haiti to support Haitian women who are breast feeding as well as orphans who may benefit from breast milk.

Vintage Neckties

ethanollie ties

Last month I bought myself some super cool Frye boots from ethanollie’s Etsy shop.  Not only were the boots great – they came packaged with an adorable handmade pillow case. It was like getting a present with my present. Right now I am thinking these vintage neckties just might be the perfect Valentine’s day gift.  I’d like to wrap one around the handle of one of my black leather bags.  The shop is full of other cute vintage items and artwork that are all very reasonably priced. Go check them out.

PlanetBox

planetbox

I have to admit one of my favorite back-to-school activities was always shopping for a new lunch box.  In junior high I think I finally brown bagged it – probably because I couldn’t find a Stray Cats lunchbox… It scare me to think of how many little baggies my mom must have used for us over the years…

Anyhow, are you in the market for an eco-friendly and easy way to pack healthy lunches for your kids? PlanetBox is the safe, non-toxic alternative to plastic. Not your old fashioned metal lunch box, PlanetBox delivers lunch transportation for the green generation. Kids can customize their lunchbox with cool magnets too. If you’ve got food on your mind, you can also check out more meal time dishware and other options for your little ones, foodie blogs & websites, family cookbooks, organic baby food, and chocolate galore…

CLIF Kid ZBaR

clif kid bar

My son and I share a favorite snack now.  These CLIF Kid ZBaRs are so good and they only have 130 calories.  We get them in four different flavors but chocolate chip is my personal favorite. Around 3 o’clock in the afternoon, one of these and an ice cold Diet Coke hits the spot.

There is something so modern and chic about this bag from Rinkle. It comes in a few other great colors (check it out in chocolate) but I think this silvery grey is my favorite. It comes lined with turquoise suede…how fabulous is that!  Available at Vivre.
