Super Mom behind Liv Dolls

Thursday, March 25th, 2010

One of my very very very best friends (and partner in crime throughout business school) was just featured in Fast Company for creating an amazing collection of dolls that have quickly become a huge hit and are giving Barbie a run for her money.  Check out the Liv dolls at Livworld.com. If you are a mom or aunt of a tween, you are likely already in the know. She truly is the epitome of a super mom.  She works her butt off my day (very long days at that), manages to raise 2 adorable kids and has created a phenomenal beach house for her family we would all love to move right into. A little toast to all the working moms out there!! Congratulations Nicole!

Safe (and Green!) Sippy Cups

Wednesday, March 24th, 2010

Kid Basix has a wonderful line of eco-friendly solutions to forever replace plastic bottles and sippy cups.  I am so impressed on how far the baby industry has come in the last few years since my son was born.  If you need any more convincing here is a little except from their website as to why stainless steel is a good option: “We can give you 300 billion reasons. That’s the approximate number of plastic water bottles discarded around the world every year. Enough to power 12 million cars for an entire year. And that’s just the water bottles! It doesn’t include all the plastic bottles used for sodas, sports drinks, fruit juices and the like. All told, the plastic bottles we throw away each year would reach to the moon and back – 1500 times. So using reusable stainless steel bottles makes sense on every level: personal, local and global.”

Banana Republic Necklace

Monday, March 22nd, 2010

I was out running errands today with my son and have to admit I was totally thrilled when he fell asleep in his stroller.  Don’t you love that… I could actually shop! I ran into Banana Republic with my friends & family coupon in hand anxious to find a little treat for myself.  I saw this necklace up on display and immediately fell in love. I have to admit it looks even cuter on. It will be absolutely perfect with a white v-neck t-shirt. I am so excited with my purchase! I am also happy about my 45 minutes of “free time” while my sweet son snoozed away… If you are looking for more cute jewelry – I’ve got links to some great shops for you.

My friend Liz is one of the best deal finders I know. I don’t know how she does it.  She recently introduced me to 6pm.com.  The deals are absurd!  Total bargains on great products. They’ve got great stuff for kids too. My son lives inTsukihoshi Kids shoes and they have them for 43% off!  Go check it out – hopefully you won’t become as addicted to the site as Liz. If you are looking for more great deals on designer goods, I have tracked down many great online resources. Don’t be intimidated my the “for members only” sites – it is usually a snap to sign up.

School Fundraisers

Monday, March 8th, 2010

My son is in preschool, just 2 mornings a week. Despite the fact that he spends just 6 hours a week there I still want to do whatever I can to support his school. I offered to host the annual dinner and auction at my home. I have been traveling a ton and been super crazy with my day job so all of the other moms on the committee went out of there way to help pull it all together. In the end I think we pulled off a great event and we raised a lot of money for the preschool. Here is a picture of my front yard all set up for the party. My son is going to cry hysterically tomorrow morning when the guys come to take away his new tent… I am actually beginning to like it too…

Disney in the Rain

Wednesday, March 3rd, 2010

We took our son to Disney World in Orlando this weekend. It was his first Disney experience and he loved it (of course). I never thought I was going to be one of those people wearing a trash bag looking rain poncho trudging through an amusement park, but there I was in all my plastic glory.  With my wool sweater and the rain – I had no other choice. At least my husband refrained from capturing the horrific moment on film.

I did want to pass along a great hotel tip. We stayed at the Hilton Orlando Bonnet Creek and it far exceeded my expectations. The place is beautiful with really cool artwork, fabrics and decor and yummy restaurants too. It is new so it is spotless. It is linked to the Waldorf Astoria which was also lovely and it has a Guerlain® spa. I think every mom deserves a day at the spa after a day at Disney World. Don’t you agree?

Bachelor Jake – The Finale

Wednesday, March 3rd, 2010

I actually find the time to “read” US Magazine cover to cover every week so obviously I wasn’t jumping for joy with Jake’s final choice. I have to remind myself every now and then that it is just a TV show and that the producers need to create characters and they always do a very good job at it. The biggest surprise for me was that they picked Jake for Dancing with the Stars and not Tenley. I don’t think I am the only one out there that wanted the good girl to win at the end. Of course I will watch Molly and Jason’s wedding next week and can’t wait for the Bachelorette in just a few months. At least I will have my Monday nights back for awhile.
