Getting the Pretty Back

Friday, April 30th, 2010

I will be the first to admit that reading has taken a back burner in my life since my son was born. I am seriously looking to change that. One thing I do know is that I loved Sixteen Candles more than anything. It was the best movie (maybe tied with The Outsiders & Grease) of all time. I’ll never forget the weekend that my friend Larkin and I took yellow note paper from my dad’s office and sat there glued in front of the TV writing down the entire script.  We would watch it frame by frame and rewind it over and over again….I am sure I have that yellow script somewhere…

Needless to say I am a huge fan of Molly Ringwald. I thought she was so cool growing up and I still do.  I am looking forward to reading her new book, Getting the Pretty Back: Friendship, Family, and Finding the Perfect Lipstick and I hope it is a huge success.  She deserves it!

Pregnancy Magazine

Saturday, April 24th, 2010

I just had the honor of styling a feature for the new issue of Pregnancy Magazine.  It was actually really fun to be an accessories editor. I poured through magazines and went to dozens of stores creating my perfect list of accessories for the shoot.  They titled the layout “The Gold Standard”.  I couldn’t be more please with how it turned out. Be sure to go pick up a copy! I’ll be buying every item on the page to celebrate.

russell+hazel paper

Friday, April 23rd, 2010

I want to send a huge thank you to Maria Shriver and The Women’s Conference team for a wonderful planning luncheon earlier this week. It is going to be an amazing event this year. As a little gift, all the guests received these fabulous russell+hazel note pads. I love love love my new note pads!  Each is a very practical size, and best of all, they have gold tipped edges. Their products are very stylish and wonderful quality. In the spirit of Earth Day, you should know that their products are also completely biodegradable – even the metal and boards used in their binders. Pretty cool! They’ve also got a lot of great products to help you get organized.

The Scary Bounce House

Monday, April 19th, 2010

Is it okay to be a 38 year woman who is afraid to slide down the super duper bounce house mega slide? There was no way I was going down that thing.  The reason Carl is a total blur in this photo is because the kids were flying down super fast.  For them it was nothing but birthday party heaven this weekend.  For me – I just couldn’t do it…no way! That thing was scary…

TOMS Glitter Shoes

Sunday, April 18th, 2010

Half way through my lunch break last Thursday I found myself clicking around the Neiman Marcus website. I stumbled upon these adorable shoes. I wondered what my husband would say if I dressed our son in silver glittery shoes….hmmm…

As many of you know, TOMS Shoes donates one pair of shoes to a child in need for every pair purchased. I have to say they have done an amazing job merging philanthropy, consumerism and shoe addictions into one wonderful package. I think more companies are going to try to mimic this, and that is a good thing.

Later that evening (still plagued by the shopping bug & not in the mood to face rush hour traffic) I found myself at Neiman Marcus trying to find a new outfit for a luncheon I am attending next week.  There I was on the escalator when literally, out of the corner of my eye, I saw this little hint of silver glitter on a table in the distance.  It was the very same pair of shoes! They are just as adorable in person. I never found an outfit and I opted to spare my son the glitter, but I did miss the traffic.

Layla Grayce Newborn Pettiskirt

Thursday, April 15th, 2010

I just love this picture. The sleeping, little angel in her tutu and the perfect pink velvet chair. Thank you to Layla Grayce for their adorable collection of photos. I am trying to think of an excuse why I need to buy one of these little pettiskirts…

I had never shopped at Layla Grayce before this week. I’ve been checking out their website since they are a new partner of Sweet Peas & Stilettos.  I must admit I was totally impressed with their product selection. I want everything – from aprons and tote bags to blankets and furniture.  Tons of great brands and resources all in one spot. I think you will like it too!

Santa Barbara Magazine

Wednesday, April 14th, 2010

I feel so very lucky that Sweet Peas & Stilettos was featured in one of my very favorite magazines this month, Santa Barbara Magazine. Of course the April issue is worth picking up because of our small but fabulous feature, but I certainly recommend that you get a subscription too. You don’t have to live in Santa Barbara to love this magazine.

Stella McCartney for GapKids

Tuesday, April 13th, 2010

Stella McCartney is back with a second collection for GapKids and of course it is just as adorable as the first one. I still kick myself for not buying one of those band jackets for my son last year.  Here is one of my favorite looks from the new line – the Stella dress. There are wonderful pieces for babies and big kids.  If you are lucky to be on the smaller side, you just might fit into the large kids clothes.  The First Lady of France made headlines for doing just that last season…. I’ve got more cute clothes for kids if you are in the mood to look around.

Lily Pulitzer

Friday, April 9th, 2010

Lilly Pulitzer is one of the original entrepreneurs to inspire women everywhere. She had a great idea and a great product and the rest is history. Last week I walked into a Lily Pulitzer boutique and a smile just enveloped my face. There I was in my grey Old Navy cords, a black and white boat neck t-shirt, black ballet flats and my big brown Louis Vuitton Carryall. It was very obvious I was not a Florida local.  Looking around at all of the pink and green and yellow and bold prints and feminine touches – it just made me want to throw away my entire closet and start over. I also had this idea that I could buy my new Lilly Pulitzer outfit and take pseudo retro Slim Aarons photos in the backyard with my son. I then thought about the moss growing on all over our brick patio, the pool furniture that needs to go to the dump, and the big black fence around our swimming pool… not really ideal for my dream photo session. I am still considering a few cute colorful tunics for summer…Check out the adorable new LeSportsac bags too – perfect for summer!
