A few weeks ago I stumbled upon the most lovely online magazine and blog by Jeanette Lunde. Each and every photograph is utterly breathtaking. I can’t say enough good things about her work. Every page is the most perfect combination of colors, design and composition, and she just has the most wonderful eye for everything.  I could stare at her photographs all day long. I have never met Jeanette – only emailed her once asking if I could use an image from her site – but I want her to decorate my home and take me shopping and I want to see all of her other gorgeous creations (I am sure there are many!). Go check out her Fryd + Design blog and By Fryd, the beautiful magazine, to see what I am talking about. While you are at it go shop at her Epla shop too.

Specialty’s Chocolate Chip Cookies

Friday, May 28th, 2010

A warm cookie right out of the oven from Specialty’s Cafe & Bakery is bliss. They are one of my favorite things about San Francisco. They are the reason I loved working in Seattle. I was completely overjoyed when they opened up closer to my home and with their super cool online ‘warm cookie radar’ you know exactly when cookies are coming out of the oven. Last week my husband surprised me with a box of Specialty’s chocolate chip cookie mix. I was in heaven. I had no idea that I would get to make my favorite cookies in my very own oven. I must tell you that these cookies were amazing, and I don’t even have a super fancy oven or anything. The dough is out of this world too!  Now everyone can enjoy these yummy treasures. They will ship the mix anywhere so order some today. You won’t be disappointed! Here are more chocolate and foodie things if you are hungry now…

Benefit Cosmetics

Wednesday, May 26th, 2010

I just want to give a big shout out to all of the girls at Benefit Cosmetics in Los Gatos. I just love walking into that store – you feel like you are walking into your best friend’s apartment for a little girl talk and pampering. They are all so nice and make you feel at home. I have always been a fan of Benefit because their fun packaging, but I also love them for their great spirit, creativity and my new eyebrows too!

Rosewood Sand Hill – Sense Spa

Friday, May 14th, 2010

As my Sweet Peas & Stilettos 1st annual Silicon Valley Spa Tour continues I must use the term “OMG!” I spent yesterday afternoon at the Sense Spa at the Rosewood Hotel in Menlo Park. The hotel has been open for over a year and even though I had heard great things about it all I could think about was that it was next to the freeway, it didn’t look that exciting from the outside (it’s a bunch of brown buildings)  and it was across the parking lot from an ex-boyfriend’s office. All I can say now it that I was so stupid to wait a year! I am so mad at myself.  The service was first rate. I simply asked for directions to the spa and I was escorted there. The facilities are gorgeous. I was so so so relaxed the whole time. I had the 90 minute Signature Body Sense and it was perfect. I took advantage of the steam room and lounge and everything. I didn’t want to leave. I really could have stayed there all day long. Next time I will…

Sckoon Organic Monkey Pants

Thursday, May 13th, 2010

I don’t know what to say about these Sckoon pants except that they make me incredibly happy just looking at them. I am not sure if it is the little flare, the red patch or the stripes – most likely the perfect combination of all three. To top it off they are made of super soft organic cotton and they are on sale too. It can’t get any better…

Four Seasons Silicon Valley Spa

Wednesday, May 12th, 2010

Long before the Four Seasons Silicon Valley became the Four Seasons it was a random wig store, a liquor store (Colt 45 not Veuve Clicquot) and some other boarded up shops. It has taken me awhile to forget that. This afternoon did the trick. My parents treated me to a spa day for my birthday and it was absolutely wonderful. I wish every mom I knew could enjoy the 90 minute head to toe massage. Ask for Gina – she was great!  I was so relaxed I think I may have dozed off during my facial. You can hang out by the pool, use the steam room and all of the other relaxing extras before your treatments too. Even though the hotel is right on the 101 freeway and it overlooks Ikea and Home Depot – don’t let that stop you from a day at the spa!

Race to Nowhere

Monday, May 10th, 2010

I can’t tell you how many fellow parents have told me that I must see Race to Nowhere “The Dark Side of Achievement Culture” and that I must tell everyone I know to go see it. Since I live in Silicon Valley and spent about 25 years of my own life in private school, I can see why I should be in the audience. I am looking forward to attending a screening later this month. Here is the full list of upcoming screenings. I hope you can see it too.
