Every Mom (and Mom-to-be) Deserves a Good Night Sleep

When I was pregnant with my son my number one complaint throughout my entire pregnancy was not being able to sleep comfortably. I was miserable. And as every mom knows, the problem with lack of sleep only gets worse when your baby is born. Every mom and mom-to-be deserves to get a restful sleep at least a few nights a week. Don’t you agree? Here are a few tips to help you get your zzzzzz.

Sleep Tip #1 – Starting with the basics – invest in a great mattress.  Getting a good night sleep on a regular basis is so important that your bed is your most important piece of furniture you will ever buy. Make sure you find a high quality mattress that you and your partner both love and find comfortable. I also recommend that you get the largest mattress that will fit in your bedroom. A little extra room is especially nice to have when you are expecting, and when your little ones sneak in to your bed in the middle of the night.

Sleep Tip #2 – If you like your current bed but want some extra comfort, opt for memory foam mattress cover. They are awesome. The foam contours to your body shape to ease your weary muscles and actually helps promotes good blood circulation. At Memory Foam Express Toppers you can even find these mattress toppers with special CoolMax covers that will help keep you cool, dry and comfortable all night long.

Sleep Tip #3 – Treat yourself to extra soft and luxurious bedding. Nobody wants to sleep on scratchy sheets. You can find some fabulous sheets at Serena & Lily, like the pretty ones pictured above, or at Bloomingdales. I also love these super soft microplush blankets from Target. I have them on every bed in the house. They are lightweight and so incredibly soft.

Sleep Tip #4 – You need super comfortable pajamas too!  Whether it is that favorite decades old concert t-shirt that has been perfectly broken in, or a pair of pretty silk pajamas – be sure to find sleepwear that you will feel comfortable in. When I was pregnant I stocked up on sleepwear from Target. They have adorable pajamas made especially for pregnant women and nursing moms.

Sleep Tip #5 – Give yourself some time to wind down and relax before you go to bed. Everybody has their ideal 30 minutes before they fall asleep. Maybe it is watching a little TV, reading a book, flipping through a magazine, or having a cup of tea, Whether it is a soak in the tub or a hot shower, make sure you have a relaxing routine to help you calm your brain so you can sleep soundly.

Now I just wish that I could help keep your sweet baby from crying all night long so you really could get the sleep you deserve!  Luckily there are infant sleep consultants and lots of great sleep books to help you with that one…

Tory Burch Sandals

Thursday, July 5th, 2012

I have a little weakness for sandals with printed, colorful footbeds. For a long time I didn’t really see the point, but after I purchased my first pair and wore them a few times – I got it. You actually see the fabulous prints and colors around your feet. I have a few pairs of Tory Burch flip flops and Havaianas with colorful footbeds and I can’t tell you how many times I have received compliments on them. Maybe it is just a little unexpected treat that makes us smile.

And tonight I was just poking around on and I saw that the Printed Emmy Sandals are on sale. You can save over $60 on every pair. Yeah! There are 7 prints/ color combinations to choose from. These sandals are perfect when you want something super simple and chic and a step up from your basic flip flop.

And the best thing about these sandals? They look so great on the floor, you don’t have to feel guilty about not putting them away in your closet…

Moving Announcements

Wednesday, July 4th, 2012

Summer is the time of year when many families decide to pack up and move to a new home. For some people it is just down the block or across town and others end up moving far away to a new state or even a new country. Packing up your home and relocating is a lot of work – even if you have lots of help. Even with great movers – it can be a stressful time for everyone in the family. The last time I moved was 6 years ago and I cross my fingers every day that I never have to move again. I love change in every other aspect of my life except for my home. I think I inherited that from my parents who have lived in the same home for over 40 years.

If you are on the move this summer be sure to spread the word about your new address and contact information to all of your friends and family so they know exactly where to find you.  Many of my favorite online stationery companies offer an eclectic array of cheerful and fun change of address cards. This card above is one of my favorites designed by Marabou for Minted. I love it’s simplicity. If you are feeling super stressed with your move, order from Paper Culture and they will take care of addressing and mailing all of your change of address cards for you. Talk about convenience.

Good luck with your move! I hope you love your new home for many years to come.

Oh wait – one more thing…if you have a friend who is moving this summer consider ordering change of address cards as a housewarming gift. It is a very thoughtful and useful gift she will certainly appreciate.

Anthropologie Los Gatos

Sunday, July 1st, 2012

I have been anxiously awaiting the opening of Anthropologie in Los Gatos and was so thrilled last week when the shop finally opened its doors. Needless to say, it was definitely worth the wait. Though the Los Gatos store is not as big as many of their other stores, you will not be disappointed.  I arrived shortly after the store opened (had to get my son to karate camp first) and was welcomed by all of the very sweet women who were working at the store. They greeted customers like good friends.  In a few weeks we will probably be great friends because it will be hard to keep me away from the place…

I actually love the layout of the store and the way it kind of twists and turns. There are so many little nooks that you feel like you are  winding through someone’s very eclectic, colorful home. There are treasures like these in every corner, just as you would expect at Anthropologie. I actually had to go back twice in the same day – just to make sure I didn’t miss anything.

I have always been so impressed and inspired by Anthropologie’s attention to detail. This photo is a little snapshot of the walls in the dressing room. They created this gorgeous texture on the walls that look a little like lace, and a little like snakeskin. So cool!

And of course there were so many wonderful pieces for summer. This is one of my favorite purchases, a wonderful RicRac carrot orange top with embroidered flower detailing and flattering cutouts. I just wore it on Sunday night out to dinner. I know it will be a summer staple when I want a little color. I also picked up Left of Center’s Petal Window Tee. This soft  t-shirt has these cool surprise cut-outs in the back that make it so much more interesting than a simple t-shirt. I ran into my friend Aparjot shopping and she had picked up the exact same shirt. There was also Fall’s light jersey camisole with orange silk straps I couldn’t leave the store without. It is a great basic to wear under anything. And lastly, I found a super comfortable Left of Center black high-low cotton tube dress that I will wear all summer long. I love the hem and the perfect cut. Needless to say, it was a great shopping day.

Anthropologie – welcome to Los Gatos. We are very very happy to have you in the neighborhood!
