Small Kids Computer Desk

Thursday, September 6th, 2012

First comes school – then comes homework! Many kids are already back in school and are bringing home lots of homework. When I was growing up the most important thing was having a dedicated spot where I would study. A lot of people opt for the end of the dining room table or create a workspace on their bed (guilty!) for their go-to homework spot, but there is something to be said for a good old fashion desk. When I look around my son’s room I am not sure where a desk would actually fit, and that is why I really like this Kids Little Sloane Leaning Computer Desk from The Land of Nod. It is such a great size for kids who don’t need to spread out mountains of textbooks.

And if you are lucky enough to have a little more room – you can add these super functional leaning bookcases with storage bins for additional storage. You can start with the desk and grow from there depending on your child’s needs. The small computer desk and the side units are available in both java (but you can’t drink it!) and white.

Now enough about the kids and their homework… A number of my mommy friends have set up “offices” in their kitchens or playrooms where they keep their laptops, mail and calendars. This small computer desk is perfect! It is simple enough that it can easily blend in with any decor and it can be easily moved from here to there as you adjust to find the perfect spot for your workstation. For $149 you can’t beat it!

Fall Fashion from Spiegel

Tuesday, September 4th, 2012

Now that the kids are back to school and fall is almost here, it is a great time to give your wardrobe a little boost. As we transition to fall (my favorite season for clothes!) I suggest finding a few simple pieces that you can easily mix with other items from your closet. As much as I love bright colors and dramatic prints, when it comes time to getting dressed in the morning, black, white and grey are always my go-to colors. I love keeping my clothes really simple so I can add bold, funky shoes and fabulous accessories. It works for me and makes getting dressed really easy. I’ve been window shopping at and have picked out my 3 favorite pieces. These black and white favorites are ideal for the office, evenings out, chauffeuring the kids, and weekend fun.

Spiegel-Ponté-Knit Sheath Dress with Modern Ruched Detailing

I love this super chic Ponté-Knit Sheath Dress with Modern Ruched Detailing. It is that perfect little black dress that I would wear over and over again. What a fantastic piece perfect for any work wardrobe. One of the moms in my son’s class wears a classic sheath dress with cute flip flops as her ‘mommy uniform’ and she always looks fantastic. I think I would pair this dress with a purple cardigan and cap-toe ballet flats to make it more casual, or with a triple strand of pearls and snakeskin sling backs for a more formal office outfit. And of course this sheath dress is great for parties and evenings out too. Add an arm full of chunky gold bracelets and gorgeous sparkly sandals and you’ll be ready to walk into any party. And best part of all – the ruched detailing will flatter any figure so you don’t feel like you have to wear two pairs of Spanx and hold your breathe all night long…

I often forget the fact that it is actually really easy to look great when you are dropping your kids off at school in the morning or running them around town to play dates and soccer practice. As much as I want to throw on my sweat pants or jeans in the morning – I always feel so much better when I look a little more pulled together. It actually doesn’t take any more time or effort.

I love this simple outfit pictured above! So easy – yet super chic and very comfortable too. All you need is Spiegel’s Signature Stretch Sateen Belted Trench Coat. (Yes – you can wear white after Labor Day!) Just pop it over a pair of leggings and add some colorful ballet flats and you are ready to go.

Spiegel’s Origami Seamed Skirt with Inset Panels is perfect for weekends. Add a fitted white t-shirt, a pair of Havaianas flip flops, and a few leather bracelets and I’d be ready to run errands or host friends for a barbeque or casual dinner at home. What a simple way to look stylish, yet be so comfortable too. As the weather cools down I would simply add a colorful scarf and cardigan sweater. And when winter arrives in full force – I’d pair this with tights, boots and a chunky cable knit sweater.

Note: I was compensated by Spiegel for my time to write this post, but my opinions are my own.
