Green Quiz

practically-green-1   practically-green-2
How green are you? I try try try my hardest to do what I can to make my home as green as possible – within reason of course. I certainly know that I am not perfect, but I make sure every toilet paper roll, piece of junk mail, and empty Diet Coke can ends up in the recycle bin. It is the least I can do.

My friend Saskia just showed me this quick, very simple quiz you can take to find out how green your really are. What is cool is that it gives you a lot of ideas and an actual action plan. I am a huge fan of lists and I think I am going to put our family action plan on the refrigerator so we can all be conscious of what we need to do to improve our lives to be better for the environment.

So go check out Practically Green. Make is a little resolution for fall to see if there are just a couple things you and your family can do to make your world a little greener. Good luck!

Everyday Shea Bubble Bath

Monday, June 27th, 2011

I popped into Whole Foods this afternoon to pick up a few random things. Top on my list was bubble bath for my son. I was in a bit of a hurry and without much thought I picked out this EveryDay Shea bubble bath. I guess I picked it for two reason – I liked the fact that it smelled like mint and also, it was one of the least expensive options on the shelf. I must tell you – it was such a great purchase.

With one cap full of soap the bathtub was completely full of bubbles. My son was thrilled. He hid his boats and animals in the tub and loved the fact that they would ‘go missing’ under the thick fog of bubbles covering his little ocean. The bubble bath has a really clean minty smell (not like a strong breathe mint or anything – just kind of fresh and clean minty) and makes incredibly long lasting bubbles. While my son was splashing and playing I started to read the label and began to love this product, and the company that made it, even more.

Here is the scoop, “EveryDay Shea is an extension of Alaffia Sustainable Skin Care. Alaffia was founded by Olowo-n’djo Tchala, a Togolese native, as a way to generate funds to conduct community enhancement projects in his home country and other West African nations in order to reduce poverty and gender inequality….This bubble bath supports the Alaffia Healthy Baby Program, which provides nutrition and health care for babies in central Togo during their critical first 18 months in an effort to reduce child mortality and malnutrition rates. According to UNICEF, 27% of children in Togo under the age of 5 suffer from stunting, and over 20,000 children die every year. Studies show that improved nutrition has a significant impact on a child’s quality of life and their ability to rise out of poverty during their lifetime.”

Needless to say I will be buying the shampoo, conditioner, body wash, lotion… name it…

petitnest-crib petitnest-sophie-dresser

Beverly Hills 90210 alum Tiffani Thiessen (she dropped the ‘Amber’) has partnered with award-winning designer Lonni Paul (the reigning female finalist from HGTV’s “Design Star”) to create a gorgeous line of cribs and bedding. PetitNest is all about elegant style, and modern design. I was lucky to be able to see a number of pieces from the collection at a recent event and I must tell you – they were gorgeous. The colors and prints of the bedding are a sheer delight and left me feeling so peaceful and calm. Just the kind of environment you want for your little angel. The dressers and gliders are so lovely you will want to put them in your own bedroom. To top it off, the PetitNest collection is also eco-friendly and certified by the Sustainable Furnishings Council.

Please check out the Sweet Peas & Stilettos Nursery resource guide if you want a little more help in creating the perfect nursery.

Magnet Alphabet

Tuesday, June 7th, 2011

Are you looking for the perfect airplane activity? Need to keep the kids occupied for a long (or even short) road trip this summer? I just bought my son this super cool A to Z Magntab from KidO Products and I just love it. It is a wonderful travel activity to keep your little ones busy and it is super easy to pack.

Here he is above in action…. With your magnet pen you can practice writing your letters and the little silver balls pop right up. It is genius. I love the design, the size, and the simplicity of it all. At $20 it makes a great gift item to have on hand for both boys and girls. And to top it off, I think it is an eco-friendly and cost effective way to learn your letters – it saves me from buying stacks of tracing paper and alphabet activity books.

Fresh Flowers on Your Shoes? Yep!

Beautiful Blooms are the Ultimate Spring Accessory.

It is time to get a little creative with all of the blooms in your garden. How about some fresh pretty petals to decorate your toes. Yes – your toes! What a fabulous way to show off a new pedicure and the pretty flowers from your garden. There is no reason they should be trapped in a bud vase in your bathroom. Take your flowers with you for the ultimate accessory.

It is super easy. All you need is a little pipe cleaner and a few cut flowers – just about any size, shape and color can work. Put the flowers in place, wrap them with the pipe cleaner and you are ready to take a fresh step into spring. I added a little feather to my flip flops for a little extra color and I think it looks so cute.

While you are at it – tie a little bouquet to your handbag too.

If you like this idea – please please please VOTE for Sweet Peas & Stilettos on Circle of Moms for the most creative use of spring flowers. It just takes a click. Thank you!

Juice Beauty

Tuesday, March 29th, 2011

JUICE is no longer about watered down apple juice in a pink sippy cup – it is all about BEAUTY.

Spring is the season to quench your thirsty soul and finally get the healthy radiant skin you deserve. Your body absorbs over 60% of what you slather on it – so why not make sure your lotions and potions are pure, safe and organic. Juice Beauty was launched by a business savvy mom who is passionate about organic living. She and her team are committed to putting the healthiest, most effective ingredients into all of their fabulous organic beauty products and equally luxurious organic skin care. Let you skin drink in these healthy nutrients, and in no time at all it will feel great and look even better. It is time for all of us to get rid of all of the yucky chemicals on our bathroom counter and remember that what we put on our skin is just as important as what we eat.

Blemish Clearing Serum – The sweet and delicious combination of certified organic apple, lemon and raw cane sugar are blended with white willow bark and coenzyme Q10 and Voila! A fresher, radiant complexion awaits you. This powerful hydroxy-acid complex will improve your skin’s tone and texture too. I know we all thought our ‘little blemishes’ would have left us long along with those high school crushes – but alas they come back!

And for those of you with older kids – this is perfect product to use to introduce your teens to organic skincare. Teach them to make the right decisions from an early age.

My personal recommendation to all teenagers – just say NO to baby oil and YES to Juice Beauty!

Stem Cellular Repair Moisturizer – I have always believed that the most important beauty product is a great moisturizer. Top of my list is anything with “advanced age defying results.” I need all the help I can get! Juice Beauty’s proprietary blend of fruit stem cells deeply penetrates the skin to repair DNA damage and encourage new cell growth to aggressively firm and eliminate wrinkles. Antioxidant-rich fruit juices, Vitamin C and plant oils will hydrate and improve your skin’s elasticity too.

Clementine Art

Monday, March 21st, 2011

This weekend I was at Whole Foods Market with my family. In an effort to keep my son from touching every last olive and cheese wedge and lemon and cookie and loaf of bread…(and yes to stop licking the glass between him and the rainbow cupcakes too!) I took him over to the little toy department and let my husband shop for our groceries. That is where I fell in love with Clementine Art. Yes – I am a total sucker for fabulous packaging and their boxes are sheer, simple perfection.

I came home and  immediately read all about Clementine Art and just fell in love even more. These healthy, green, responsibly sourced, all natural art supplies will encourage creativity in every little budding Rothko. What could be better? Everything is made from natural, wholesome ingredients and they use recycled and reusable products wherever they can. You can buy their products online right from their website or from Amazon too.
