Everyday Shea Bubble Bath

Monday, June 27th, 2011

I popped into Whole Foods this afternoon to pick up a few random things. Top on my list was bubble bath for my son. I was in a bit of a hurry and without much thought I picked out this EveryDay Shea bubble bath. I guess I picked it for two reason – I liked the fact that it smelled like mint and also, it was one of the least expensive options on the shelf. I must tell you – it was such a great purchase.

With one cap full of soap the bathtub was completely full of bubbles. My son was thrilled. He hid his boats and animals in the tub and loved the fact that they would ‘go missing’ under the thick fog of bubbles covering his little ocean. The bubble bath has a really clean minty smell (not like a strong breathe mint or anything – just kind of fresh and clean minty) and makes incredibly long lasting bubbles. While my son was splashing and playing I started to read the label and began to love this product, and the company that made it, even more.

Here is the scoop, “EveryDay Shea is an extension of Alaffia Sustainable Skin Care. Alaffia was founded by Olowo-n’djo Tchala, a Togolese native, as a way to generate funds to conduct community enhancement projects in his home country and other West African nations in order to reduce poverty and gender inequality….This bubble bath supports the Alaffia Healthy Baby Program, which provides nutrition and health care for babies in central Togo during their critical first 18 months in an effort to reduce child mortality and malnutrition rates. According to UNICEF, 27% of children in Togo under the age of 5 suffer from stunting, and over 20,000 children die every year. Studies show that improved nutrition has a significant impact on a child’s quality of life and their ability to rise out of poverty during their lifetime.”

Needless to say I will be buying the shampoo, conditioner, body wash, lotion… name it…

Lollia Hand Creme

Monday, June 13th, 2011

Last month I received this wonderful Lollia hand creme as a birthday gift from my dear friend Liza. I just love it and have been using it every day. It is full of macadamia nut and avocado oils (2 of my favorite things to eat) and many other hydrating ingredients that leave your hands feeling soft and fresh without the slimy or sticky feeling that you get with other hand cremes.

The packaging itself is so lovely. I actually can’t throw the box away because I adore the print and colors so much and don’t want to see them end up in my recycle bin. WIth such cute packaging the hand creme makes a great gift that you don’t even have to wrap. Lollia also carries a beautiful selection of candles, fragrances and other pretty items for the bath and lounging.

And if you don’t trust my word – when I went to their website to grab the links I noticed on their home page that Oprah Magazine loves Lollia too. Lollia made the all time list of favorite things. Oprah and her team have great taste!

Juice Beauty

Tuesday, March 29th, 2011

JUICE is no longer about watered down apple juice in a pink sippy cup – it is all about BEAUTY.

Spring is the season to quench your thirsty soul and finally get the healthy radiant skin you deserve. Your body absorbs over 60% of what you slather on it – so why not make sure your lotions and potions are pure, safe and organic. Juice Beauty was launched by a business savvy mom who is passionate about organic living. She and her team are committed to putting the healthiest, most effective ingredients into all of their fabulous organic beauty products and equally luxurious organic skin care. Let you skin drink in these healthy nutrients, and in no time at all it will feel great and look even better. It is time for all of us to get rid of all of the yucky chemicals on our bathroom counter and remember that what we put on our skin is just as important as what we eat.

SWEET DEAL: Use the code PEAS before April 6th when you check out at and you’ll get a free, full-size Organic Facial Moisture Concentrate ($36 value!).

Blemish Clearing Serum – The sweet and delicious combination of certified organic apple, lemon and raw cane sugar are blended with white willow bark and coenzyme Q10 and Voila! A fresher, radiant complexion awaits you. This powerful hydroxy-acid complex will improve your skin’s tone and texture too. I know we all thought our ‘little blemishes’ would have left us long along with those high school crushes – but alas they come back!

And for those of you with older kids – this is perfect product to use to introduce your teens to organic skincare. Teach them to make the right decisions from an early age.

My personal recommendation to all teenagers – just say NO to baby oil and YES to Juice Beauty!

Stem Cellular Repair Moisturizer – I have always believed that the most important beauty product is a great moisturizer. Top of my list is anything with “advanced age defying results.” I need all the help I can get! Juice Beauty’s proprietary blend of fruit stem cells deeply penetrates the skin to repair DNA damage and encourage new cell growth to aggressively firm and eliminate wrinkles. Antioxidant-rich fruit juices, Vitamin C and plant oils will hydrate and improve your skin’s elasticity too.

Help give all babies a healthy start and support the March of Dimes. I wanted to let everyone know about a wonderful promotion going on right now at Belli – the makers of top-of-the-line, super duper safe skin care products especially designed for moms-to-be, babies, and mommies.

Sweet Peas & Stilettos, this website you are reading right now, it is all the work of one individual – me. The only exception is my friend Susan who writes a post on Fridays. I know first hand what it is like to be one person who wants to create a business and support themselves all on their own. I also know what it is like to want to help people and share with others what I have learned. I discover all of these cool products and services and I want you to know about them too. I always want to support other entrepreneurs and individuals who are trying to make their dreams come true too. That is why I like to highlight products and services from small businesses. It’s all about people helping people isn’t it?

Anyhow, awhile back I read an article about Betterfly and it immediately piqued my interest. Betterfly connects people who want to learn, look and feel better with the people – not companies – who can help them. What is amazing is that the site covers about 1000 different categories (I am sure that number goes up every day). You can go on the site and find everything from a nutritionist or personal trainer to someone who can teach you to dance Flamenco or pole vault. It kind of feels like a combination of Etsy (individuals who are trying to build a business & earn a living), Yelp (helpful reviews from customers), eHarmony (connecting people with similar interests together) and Oprah (it’s all about making yourself a better person) all rolled into one. Gotta love that! To top it off – it’s FREE.

So what do you want to be better at? Go check out Betterfly and find some new friends to help you realize your dreams.

Noodle & Boo

Tuesday, January 25th, 2011

My friends just introduced me to Noodle & Boo this weekend and I used some of their skin care products for the first time yesterday. So so so wonderful!!  My friend Lee Ann told me I would be hooked and boy she was right. What makes me extra happy about Noodle & Boo is that the company behind the product is just as cool and fabulous as the products themselves. First of all, Noodle & Boo was started by a mom, and I love to support other mom owned business. And then I learned that she donates the majority of the profits of the company to children’s charities. You can feel great about every purchase.

The Noodle & Boo line consists of personal skin care products for newborns, babies, children and pregnant women – everything is safe and gentle for sensitive skin. You can purchase the products online or at your local Neiman Marcus, Bergdorf Goodman, Nordstom and other fine retailers. The packaging is so cute that I think the products make a wonderful baby shower gift too.

Solage Calistoga

Tuesday, August 17th, 2010

I took at little detour on my Silicon Valley spa tour this weekend and headed up to Solage Calistoga with one of my best friends from college, Marlena. We spent the day relaxing poolside after our perfect pedicures and it was sheer bliss! They have these incredible geo-thermal pools that were so relaxing. I have a pool at home, but this water was so soft – we didn’t want to get out. The snacks and drinks served poolside were so yummy too. Who knew that flatbread could taste so good?  The place is gorgeous in that casual, modern hipster kind of way, but not too over the top. The only thing that convinced us to leave was the thought of running back to our house so we could change clothes and come back for dinner. Solbar (their phenomenal restaurant) received a Michelin Star Rating and I can tell you, they deserve it. It was one of those meals where you cherish each and every bite. We sat outside in their gorgeous patio overlooking the main pool and it was the perfect setting to enjoy such a delicious meal.

So if you are looking for an all around perfect mommy getaway – this is your place. From yoga and a ‘mud bar’ to bocce ball and cruiser bikes and the best food around – you will undoubtedly be able to unwind and recharge.

The Spa Los Gatos

Saturday, July 24th, 2010

My Silicon Valley spa tour continues…..For many many years now the spa I most regularly go to has been The Spa Los Gatos. I have tried a number of different services and have always been very happy. I had prenatal massages while I was pregnant which were wonderful, and Veronica is fabulous for facials. It is the perfect neighborhood spa – not over the top – just super mellow and relaxing. After you slip into your big terry robe you can meander over to their library where you can enjoy tea, juice and nuts (if you arrive after I have been there all of the cashews and little chocolates will be missing from the mix) while you read a magazine or just close your eyes and relax. They also have a cute little shop that is full of tempting little spa treasures – from bumble and bumble hair products to lemon drop lotion. Grab a girlfriend or two and enjoy a great afternoon. Insider tip…Cold Stone Creamery is just a block away so you can get a little treat afterwards too….

Hair Tips from Ian

Wednesday, June 23rd, 2010

Ian is my go to hair stylist when I am in Los Angeles. He is one of the few people who can convince me to take my hair out of my mainstay ponytail. Cut or color – he is your guy. He has been kind enough to share some tips with everyone. I told him that moms don’t have a lot of time for primping so we needed something quick and easy. His solution: A blowout in five minutes.

Here goes: Roll up all your hair in four or five big rollers. (You can let your kids stick one or two in their hair too so they don’t get jealous), apply heat for just a bit, run around and get everyone ready for school or summer camp, remove the rollers when your hair cools and gently brush through. You will be the cutest mom in car line.

If you are ready for a new summer ‘do – get an appointment with Ian Martin at Joseph Martin Hair & Beauty on Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills.

With my Louis Vuitton Neverfull packed to the brim with weekend essentials, I was ready for a weekend of ‘glamping’ with my boys and 10 other families. I will be honest – I don’t enjoy camping. It is not fun, nor is it relaxing. I do love being outside in beautiful places and being away from home and endless to-do lists.  I fully embrace this trend towards fancy, glamorous camping (now known as ‘glamping’) and a great place to do it is Costanoa, in Northern California. I had told a few girlfriends about the place and before I knew it 10 Silicon Valley families had found a weekend to embark on a fun filled getaway.

I opted for the log cabin that comes with a fireplace, deck (great view and swing), stereo, refrigerator and fluffy spa robes. Never once did I hear my husband complain wishing that he was pitching a tent. The surroundings are gorgeous and the weather was perfect. We had an amazing day at the beach (it’s a long but pretty walk – I just kept my fingers crossed my son wouldn’t ask me to carry him), we roasted marshmallows, we lounged in the jacuzzi, we sat in the grass and watched with wind blow the leaves in the trees and just enjoyed a few days with no cell connection and no TV (they do have WiFi). Yes they also have a spa, a delicious restaurant and lots of activities too. If you like to camp, you can also pitch a tent and barbeque. Something for everyone.

This is the first time we’ve traveled with more than one other family and it was great. Because the place is so spread out, we all had a little alone time and we all kind of moved to our own schedules. Everyone brought yummy food, wine and cupcakes to share. The kids loved the dirt, the sticks, the sand, the rocks and the millions of stars that filled the night sky. A good time all around.

Some of the moms were talking as we were packing up and we thought this was the perfect spot for a girls getaway – a few days of yoga, wine, good food, great friends and a little peace and quite. Sounds perfect.
