butch-and-harold-mini-sticker-frames

I know you have an adorable picture of your children as the wall paper on your computer screen. But, what about the other side of your laptop? I love these mini removable sticker picture frames from Butch & Harold. As soon as you get the new crop of school photos, you can pop one right onto your laptop.

You can easily move these removable sticker frames around too so it can go from your computer, to the refrigerator and then onto your mirror. The stickers come in four different styles, I just happen to like these ‘gum drop’ frame. They are also great for school lockers too. Your kids can decorate their lockers with photos of their friends and family, and of course with framed pictures of Justin Bieber too…

I have calendars all over my house. I have a calendar on the wall by my desk in case I need to look at dates, I have a planner for all of my Sweet Peas & Stilettos planning that I keep in my office, I have another day planner for my personal appointments that I take with me everywhere I go, and then I have a family calendar posted on the refrigerator so my husband knows what’s going on. I also keep multiple to-do lists. Yes, I would say I am a little obsessed with being organized.

I love the colors in the Bold Blossoms collection from Orange Circle Studio. They carry a number of very cute and super functional organization calendars and planners for moms so you can keep your life organized. I am planning to use their Do It All Planner for all of my business related items. The colors will look great in my office and I know it won’t get lost under a pile of mail. I am going to put my Orange Circle Studio Do It All Calendar on my refrigerator to replace the one I have up their from last year. They have made improvements to their design and the magnet and it has a great pocket for little notes too. Thank you Orange Circle Studio for the great products – I am thrilled to use them.

If you are looking to get organized, here is the Sweet Peas & Stilettos page full of family calendars, mom planners and agendas, and organizational tools.

Stephanie Johnson Travel Bags

stephanie-johnson-travel-bag

I have found a little travel bag that I will never ever tuck away in a drawer. I received this glorious Stephanie Johnson cosmetic case as a gift (thank you Susan!!) about 2 months ago and I swear it has been on my counter or in my bag every day since. It is to pretty and festive to put away. It has been wonderful for vacations – I love the little compartments inside where I can organize my make-up and brushes. The bag has been equally useful to use on a daily basis to carry little items in my bag. I’ve used it for my iPhone, for glasses, you name it. I toss it into my Louis Vuitton Neverfull and I can always find it.

I love Stephanie Johnson’s website too because she makes it really easy to see all of your options and all of the products you have to choose from all on one screen. Above is a snapshot of some of her bags (there are many more too!) so you just pick a bag style you like. She really has designed a bag for everyone and every possible need.

And then you have all of these gorgeous fabrics to choose from. If you fall in love with a particular print you can quickly see all of the bags available in that print. It is so simple and intuitive. The hardest part is narrowing down your selection because the colors and fabrics are so pretty.

Go to her website and play and have fun with all of the colors. I am sure you will find a new cosmetic bag you’ll love. And while you are at it, you can pick up a cute evening pouch and an iPad case too. Happy Shopping!

Rebecca Minkoff iPad Case

Have you found a favorite iPad case yet? Please email me if you have. Eventually I plan to have a whole page full of them for you, but until then, I will share the funky ones I find.

Not that I ever get to use our iPad because my son is always using it…. but I do like shopping for cases for it. We have a black one now but I love the idea of this bright red Rebecca Minkoff Touch & Go iPad case because it will help us from losing our iPad on a regular basis. I think color, or maybe a bold pattern, is the trick for not losing your iPad under a stack of mail. This one comes in teal too – maybe I will just need to order them both…

Also, here are some cool iPhone and iPad apps. I am working on updating this page in the coming weeks so check back soon too.

Queen Bee iPad Cases

How cute are these cases? Perfect for your iPad or Kindle or other techno gadget. The folks at Queen Bee Creations in Portland, Oregon handcraft each and every bag and they have a great selection of colors and simple designs to choose from. Vegetarians and PETA supporters everywhere – you don’t have to worry about any animals losing their lives for the sake of these cool bags because they are made of pvc-free faux leather. I love the fact that they are lined with soft silver velveteen. It’s like a little “sleeping bag for your precious device.”

Home Decorating with Your Kids

Monday, March 14th, 2011

I want to start off by thanking friends and fans for selecting Sweet Peas & Stilettos as one of the Top 3 Creative Mom Sites on Circle of Moms. It is a huge honor and I am totally giddy about it.

Maybe it is the 25 years of private school but I immediately went to the dictionary to find the true definition of ‘creative’. When I looked it up I found things like ‘originality of thought’, ‘showing imagination’ and ‘sophisticated bending of the rules or conventions’. They asked me to share a favorite creative activity and I paused to think about it. So many people compliment me on my very eclectic home so I thought I would share some home decorating ideas. These are all fun things you can do with your kids too.

3 tiered dessert stand for jewelry

Dessert stands don’t have to be used for dessert! This is a great 3 tiered stand that is actually covered with glitter. If you find one at an antique store (or grandma’s closet) just spray paint it and sprinkle on a little glitter. I use mine for jewelry. Your child can help you curl up your necklaces like little cupcakes and line the trays. Up top you can add bangles and earrings too. Your dresser has never looked so good.

living-room-knick-knacks

I always wanted my living room to be ‘livable’ and not just a show room. Many of my friends were too scared to walk into my parents’ living room when I was growing up because they were afraid they would break something. I have taken a very eclectic approach and I let my son help me. We both picked out our very favorite things and every table has a colorful combination of eclectic objects, special frames, priceless photos, pretty art and funky toys. I love to mix Lalique glass with my son’s pottery and artwork from all over the world with my son’s little masterpieces. Our living room has become a very special place for every member of the family.

ikea drapes

Did you ever think a 4 year-old boy would be picking out your kitchen curtains from the bedding department? My old silver shutters were dirty and dull and I was ready for a change. My son and I went to Ikea to look at fabrics and to peruse their window coverings. I didn’t find exactly what I was looking for. We were on our way out when my son darted away and started bouncing on the faux display beds, hiding under the covers and tossing pillows my way. Then he grabbed this bedspread and said, “mommy, let’s get this,” and just threw it in the cart. He was on to something – this bedspread would make fantastic curtains! Thanks to my dear friend Liz (and seamstress extraordinaire) I have these cool 6 panel shades made from a $19 Ikea duvet cover. I love them! I have one person to thank – my 4 year-old son for looking in the bedding department for curtains.

green-front-doors

It is perfectly okay to let your children pick out the paint color for your front doors. They are nothing but wood….and besides, a little color never hurt anyone…

my shoe rack

Of course as the creator of Sweet Peas & Stilettos, I will tell you to throw out your black flats and go crazy with color on your feet. Every mom deserves a fabulous shoe collection. You also need to be able to see your shoes! Think of them as art – not sweatpants that need to be tucked away in your closet. Find an empty wall and put up a shoe rack. For the last 15 years or so I have always used a wall of my home for shoes. It is practical because I actually get to see my shoes when I am getting dressed. It is also a colorful way to dress up and decorate my walls too.

Wishing you and your family lots of luck as you explore, love, live and create while you make your wonderful house a home.

Children’s Book List

Friday, February 11th, 2011

susan-fry-writer-journalist

Every Friday Susan Fry is kind enough to take time away from her busy writing career and her family to review a new category of delightful children’s books for Sweet Peas & Stilettos. A huge thank you to Susan!! Personally it has been a wonderful treat to have her open my world to so many new, colorful books that I have been able to enjoy with my son, Carl. Lately I have found myself at the library with Carl and I typically need to pull out my iPhone or go to one of the computers so I can pull up Susan’s reviews and get some ideas for books that my son and I can read together. This week Susan was kind enough to put together a simple list of all of the children’s books she has reviewed and recommended that we can easily print out, tuck in our bags and take right along with us.

Susan Fry Children’s Book List

Yes – I am a huge fan of lists (any list for that matter) and this will be perfect for making notes of our favorites, crossing off books we’ve read, and jotting down reminders of books that we want to share with friends. Thank you Susan for saving us time and getting us organized. You will find links to all of her children’s book reviews on our Toys & Books page.

Boon Drying Rack

Boon-Grass-Countertop-Drying-Rack

The Boon Grass Countertop Drying Rack has been around for awhile and I can’t believe I haven’t written about it sooner. A year and a half ago I went to this big baby show in Las Vegas and this was my favorite item. I don’t know what it is about it that just puts a smile on my face and I can’t get it out of my head. I was recently in Los Angeles and visited my friend Kristine who had her Boon Grass Countertop Drying Rack perched on her carrera marble counter tops in her gorgeous grey and white kitchen. It was the perfect accent piece. I already had 2 drying racks so I couldn’t find an excuse to buy another (except that this one is sooo much cuter…). I am now thinking that I might buy one to use to sort the mail. It will look great on my desk with a photo or two and some bills (hopefully very small ones) stuck in it.  Who knew you could do so much with a drying rack…

Erin Condren for Tiny Prints

Friday, January 7th, 2011

erin-condren-tiny-prints-day-planner

Erin Condren has partnered up with Tiny Prints to create some super colorful, fun and functional new day planners for 2011. One of my favorite features of the organizers is that you can actually have a picture of your family on the cover to take with you everywhere you go. Erin has thought of every last feature a mom could want including a folder, a zip lock pouch, month at a glance, daily grids and stickers too. You’ll find a place for everything. I am totally obsessed with lists so I am going to tell you to order a matching notepad too while you are at it. It is always great to have paper at hand to easily jot down notes and to scribble down the silly things that come out of the mouths of our children. It looks like Tiny Prints has a sale going on through 1/11/11 – if you buy one life planner, you get one free!
