One of my favorite places to shop for unique holiday cards and Christmas presents is any museum gift store. So many museum gift shops are accessible online too which makes it easy to find special items and support the arts too. Mark Rothko and Alexander Calder are two of my favorite artists whose work makes lovely cards. Modern Christmas & Holiday Cards & Your Photo Christmas Cards – Tips & Little Things to Consider

Sending out holiday cards should be a fun and special thing for every family. It is a great way to celebrate Christmas, the New Year and the holiday season with all of your friends and family. Here are a few little things to think about as you get ready to select and order your holiday cards, invitations and photo Christmas cards.

1) When do you want to send out your holiday cards? I know some friends who have the envelopes addressed before Thanksgiving, and some people even get ready before Halloween. I on the other hand wait until the first week in January and send out Happy New Year cards. Everyone will be excited to hear from you and see the latest picture of your family so simply find a time that works best for you and your schedule.

2) What sort of design do you want on your holiday card? Some people like modern Christmas cards with bold fonts and grahics, while others prefer more traditional holiday cards. I am sure you will find a design (or many designs) that will just speak to you. You will find some that will have more images, colors and bold type on the cards and other Christmas and holiday cards will be much simpler. There is certainly a perfect holiday card to fit everyone’s taste and budget.

3) Do you want to combine your holiday card with another note? If you are looking for ways to save a little money, think about combining your New Years or holiday cards with your thank you notes. That is what I did! Just be sure to select a card that gives you ample space to write a little note. You can thank your family members for the Christmas gifts and share family updates at the same time. I also combined our Christmas cards with our baby announcements another year which was a great way to save a little time and money.

4) Do you want to include a photograph and create a special holiday photo card? I am 100% all for including a photograph of your kids. Who doesn’t want to see how much your children have grown? There are some very very cute holiday cards without photos (especially ones with great art) so I can see why people select those too…

5) If you are going to use a photo to create a special holiday photo card here are a few more items to consider:

• Do you want to simply use a photo of your children or do you want to include other family members or pets? Remember to book your photo session early and make sure you have outfits selected for everyone in the shoot. (Treat yourself to a blowout so you look extra cute too!)
• Do you want the photograph to be black and white or in color? A lot of times the design of the card will dictate what sort of picture you will use. If you know you really want to send out a color photo in your photo holiday card, just remember that when you are looking at cards. Some people may photograph their family wearing a color theme that matches the card they have chosen, or vice versa, they will find a card that matches adorable outfits you have for your children.
• If you want to use a photograph from a professional photographer for your family photo Christmas or holiday card, be sure to discuss this up front. You will need to be able to get a digital photograph from the photographer.
