Carl’s Holiday Joy

carl in the dirt

After a busy morning opening up hundreds of dollars worth of Christmas gifts my son found the greatest joy just hanging out in my parents’ backyard with an old spoon, digging up dirt. It really is the simple things in life that kids enjoy. I think I have learned a valuable lesson…

Somaly Mam

A few months ago I was honored to hear Somaly Mam speak at The Women’s Conference (a fabulous event hosted by California’s First Lady Maria Shriver). I don’t think a day has passed since then that I have not thought about the life Somaly has endured and the path she has taken to make a difference. Whenever I catch myself worrying about a pair of shoes or cute bag – I just think about Somaly and all of the girls she has helped in Cambodia.  It really helps to put things into perspective.  I encourage everyone to learn more about her good work.  When you start to make your new year’s resolutions, maybe she will inspire you to do more in 2010 than lose a few pounds.

kate spade quilted

I know that someday I will break down and buy a Chanel bag, but until then I will be absolutely thrilled with my Kate Spade ‘gold coast maryanne’ quilted bag.  I shopped for Santa this year and am so happy with my choice.  It also comes in the really subtle gold and a shimmery black too. If you are in the mood, here is the link for more great handbags.

Get Organized

mom agenda

I just spent the entire day organizing my house, cleaning up all of the holiday decorations and getting myself ready for the new year. I actually look forward to buying new calendars and attempting to get my life in order. Even though I have an iPhone and a Blackberry – I still love having a paper agenda/ calendar in my purse and one in my office too. I tried to do without it last year and gave up in March. Here are tons of great day planners just for moms.  One really popular site full or mommy organization resources is momAgenda.

Love Flats

cl flat net a porter

I am so so so sad they don’t have these available in my size.  I totally fell in love with them, and then I read that Christian Louboutin said that Princess Diana inspired these shoes.  His quote published on Net-A-Porter reads, “”I wanted her to always have love at her feet.”   How sweet is that… I hope they still have your size left. If you are in the shopping mood, here are more cute shoes.

Swaddle Blankets

Saturday, December 19th, 2009

Somehow I was lucky enough to give birth to a baby who actually liked to sleep and went down without much fuss at all. I have many friends who were not as lucky. Many of them have told me about the great products at aden + anais.  The breathable muslin fabrics make them usable all year long.  I have put these adorable swaddling blankets at the top of my baby shower shopping list. They are available at or The Land of Nod. Here are more blankets and nursery items.

Pearhead Christmas Ornament

pearhead ornament

I know it is probably a little too late to be thinking about ordering Christmas ornaments, but I love this one.  It is a classic hand print you can make with your child, and it comes with the fixings to make an actual ornament.  It is not as messy as the classic plaster material.  You could always use your own ribbon and make one anytime of the year to give as a gift to grandma or anyone else on your list.  Available at

Party Shoes

I must admit I have a HUGE weakness for Kate Spade shoes. I may need to add these to my collection.  I love any pair of shoes (or bag or ring or anything for that matter) with a little sparkle.  Go check out all of the fabulous shoes at Kate Spade and find yourself a little holiday treat.  You deserve it.
