ModeWalk & Samasource

Wednesday, May 16th, 2012

Yesterday afternoon I was certainly one lucky girl. I was invited (thank you Rhonda!!) to attend a ModeWalk trunk show in Los Altos Hills where a portion of proceeds benefitted Samasource. I was so excited because I have been a huge fan of Modewalk from the time they launched and all of the gorgeous clothes and accessories they have in their online showrooms. In addition, I had recently read an article about Samasource and was totally inspired by the great work they had been doing all over the world. And behind each of these organizations are super smart, super chic women. Love that!

Do you love fashion? Do you wish you could pop over to Paris for a little shopping trip? “ModeWalk is for the woman who treats her closet as a collection.” What I love about ModeWalk is that they celebrate the people behind the clothes – the designers, the seamstresses, and the muses who inspire them. The ModeWalk shopping experience is different because you feel like you actually get to meet the creative minds behind the impeccable designs and creations. Just one click and you are off to Paris!

Samasource enables companies to save money and time and do good at the same time. Who doesn’t want to do that? They also bring hope, pride and a livelihood to people who are smart and driven – they just need the opportunity to demonstrate the value they can bring. Samasource’s mission is to bring dignified, computer-based work to women, youth, and refugees living in poverty.

Leila Janah and her team have already created jobs for people all over the world and are partnering with top corporations to prove that this idea is one that works. Please check out their website to learn more, to be inspired and to see how you can help.

I have no problem admitting that I love watching Real Housewives of Beverly Hills. It is sheer entertainment. I am not a huge fan of all of the bickering (hence why I skip out on some of the other Housewife shows) but after a long day, it is fun to get to control the remote for 1 hour to see what these girls are up to. If you are anxiously awaiting for the next season to air, you can grab their books to get your RHOBH fill.

Lisa Vanderpump recently released, Simply Divine: A Guide to Easy, Elegant, and Affordable Entertaining. Lisa certainly knows how to throw a party so there is no doubt she knows what she is talking about. Though she is remarkably elegant, I love her sense of humor. Her writing clearly brings out her charming personality and her frank honesty. I think that is why so many people love her. The book is full of simple tips (that really do make a difference when you have a party of any size at your home) and many recipes as well.

Kyle Richards has certainly risen above the title of ‘Paris Hilton’s aunt’ and has clearly made a name for herself (and for her gorgeous hair). Kyle’s book,Life Is Not a Reality Show: Keeping It Real with the Housewife Who Does It All is simply Kyle telling it like it is. She tells you what type of shampoo she uses (because thousands of women actually want to know!), how she keeps her family happy and what life is like in Beverly Hills. Remember – this is not intended to be award winning journalism – it is just a little lighthearted fun for people who love RHOBH and Kyle’s open style.

And hopefully in a few short months, we can find out what the housewives are up to in season 3…

Many boutique owners are moms too! Get inspired, shop local and have a fabulous mother’s day weekend.

Little Blue Frogs Pop up Tops

Wednesday, May 9th, 2012

My freshman roommate from Stanford, Elaine, recently introduced me to Little Blue Frogs on Etsy and these adorable baby onesies and t-shirts designed by Jane Bahk. Jane took her love of pop-up books and found a creative way to capture the same sense of 3D images on children’s clothes. Each playful ‘surprise’ is hidden under a colorful image (records, hearts, clouds and more) that can be easily lifted by little fingers.

I can just imagine siblings laughing and giggling and they play peek-a-boo with one another’s shirts. How fun that clothes can be interactive too! Pop on over to Little Blue Frogs and see the complete collection today.

I was excited this morning to learn that Sweet Peas & Stilettos was selected as a “Fab Resource” by Reader’s Digest. What a wonderful compliment. Thanks so much to the team at Readers’ Digest for recognizing my website. I really appreciate it!

Kitchen Essentials Sale

Friday, May 4th, 2012

I’ve been married for 9 years and all of those fabulous wedding gifts we received for our kitchen are starting to lose their luster. I now have a kitchen full of chipped bowls and non-stick pans that  have become super sticky. Kind of a bummer…. If you need to upgrade a few kitchen essentials, like I do, you will want to check out the kitchen SALE going on this weekend at One Kings Lane.

Baby-Food Makers are really popular right now. One Kings Lane will have them on sale this weekend. This cool gadget makes a great baby shower gift idea. Heck – buy one for yourself!

The other item that caught my eye was the lemon squeezer. My son has been begging me to have a lemonade stand, and I know before the summer is over we will be having many. I thought this would be a fun little gift to buy for him. And maybe my husband can use it to make me an ice cold margarita…

Not a One Kings Lane member yet? Don’t sweat it. Sign up today for a $15 credit for purchases of $30 or more.

Fairytale Jubilee

Wednesday, May 2nd, 2012

With the Queen Elizabeth’s Diamond Jubilee official celebration just a month away, it is time to break out gorgeous royal wedding worthy hats and fascinators for everyone in the family to wear. When only the finest will do, you must visit the FairytaleJubilee shop on Etsy for the most exquisite designs for children. With a quick turn of the hat, your daughter will instantly become a little princess.

I was first introduced to FairytaleJubilee yesterday and have spent the last 24 hours in awe of their remarkable designs. The women behind FairytaleJubilee are owner and designer (and busy mom) Alisha Aiken Collin and the seamstress is Patricia Roper. For the Queen’s jubilee, your daughter’s birthday, a wedding, or even just for fun – these one of a kind creations will become treasures your little girl will cherish. And while you are there you will undoubtedly notice the fabulous handmade dresses too!

Giving credit where credit is due (and very well deserved): I was reading the Plush Little Baby blog where Tonya Coleman had a fun feature on an ‘April Showers’ birthday party. In one of the photos was the most gorgeous dress on a little girl that happened to be a designed dress by FairytaleJubilee – which led me to their Etsy shop. The top photo (of the baby in the headband) was taken by Lori Waddell Photography and the photo of the little girl in the tea hat was taken by April Estes with Reflective Images Photography.

momAgenda FREE Shipping

I am a total organization junkie. I admit it. I love my calendar, my lists, my day planner, my post-it notes, my iPhone, my address book – everything. I have my own personal system to keep my family, my business and my life totally organized and running smoothly and I love it. It just works for me.

Do you need to coordinate the calendars for a house full of busy kids? Are you looking for a new tool to get your life in order? One of the most popular systems I have seen is momAgenda. It was developed by a super busy mom and she has continually expanded her amazing line of products. Besides being very practical and useful, she recently she added animal print covers to many items in her collection which made me very happy too! momAgenda organizers and day planners also come in this great selection of colors:

One of their most popular items is the momAgenda Desktop. It helps busy moms manage multiple calendars for up to four children (or three kids and a spouse!) and features helpful planning areas including vacation planning and party prep pages. Love that! Plus they include an accompanying momEssentials pamphlet where you can easily keep your family’s medical information, birthdays, websites and passwords all in one handy place instead of having your important info scattered all over the place.

And, best of all, in honor of Mother’s Day shop through May 6th and receive FREE SHIPPNG on all orders with promo code LOVEMOM. Surprise yourself or a fellow mom with the gift of organization!

For more scoop on getting organized, check out the Sweet Peas & Stilettos page all about organization tools & tips for moms and the home organization page too.
