In 1998, Lee Rhodes, glassybaby creator and founder, was raising her three small children and fighting what would become a 7-year battle with a rare form of lung cancer. She fell in love with these fabulous hand blown glass vessels and the way they radiated light with a simple tea candle and added color and cheer to any table. Over the next few years, Lee learned to blow glass and she created glassybaby. To Lee, these colorful vessels represented “that deep breath that we often forget to take.” The success of glassybaby has enabled the company to donate hundreds of thousands of dollars to charities dedicated to health, healing and quality of life. Lee Rhodes is a true inspiration for us all.

Somaly Mam Fundraiser

Wednesday, October 12th, 2011

somaly_mam foundation
Somaly Mam is an incredibly inspiring women. I heard her speak at Maria Shriver’s Women’s Conference a few years back and she brought me to tears. She was full of grace, determination and heart. She has done so much to help women and girls all over the world so that they do not have to suffer and endure the pain that she did as a young girl.

Somaly Mam travels all over to share her personal story of sexual slavery, and to raise awareness of human trafficking. Her foundation, The Somaly Mam Foundation works around the world to provide direct services for victims, advocacy, and outreach.

For those of you who live in or around New York City – please consider attending the Somaly Mam Foundation Fundraiser Gala on Thursday, October 20th. Help spread the word if you know friends who might want to go too.

If you aren’t in NYC, you can still help. Please visit to learn more.

Little Giraffe Supports Breast Cancer Research

Wednesday, October 5th, 2011

We all know how super duper crazy soft and luxurious Little Giraffe blankets are. I will admit that I have been very close to buying a whole slew of them and making pillow cases for every pillow in my home so my cheeks can happily sleep on that amazingly soft fabric every night of the week.  Luckily I own a few Little Giraffe blankets so there is always one near by for my son and I to fight over…

I am thrilled to share the news that in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness month, Little Giraffe is donating 10% of all proceeds of their fabulous luxe pink throws and blankets to support breast cancer research activities. I can’t think of a better time to stock up on baby gifts, or to simply to treat yourself.

Nutcase Bike Helmets

Thursday, September 29th, 2011

Safety first. Of course. But looking cool is a very very close second. My 4 year old son cruises about town on his Mater bike with training wheels wearing his Little Nutty watermelon bike helmet and is without a doubt, the hippest kid in town. I can not begin to tell you how many compliments he gets on his helmet.  People love it. Most importantly he loves it so it is never a struggle to get him to wear it. In fact, he thinks it is so cool, he wears it like a hat – even if we are just going to the grocery store. I happen to have my very own Nutcase sunburst helmet too, as does my very good friend Srinija who originally introduced me to this very creative company.

My son actually learned how to unbuckle his helmet all by himself this week so I thought I would celebrate by telling all of you about these super cool helmets. So go check out their Little Nutty line if you are shopping for kids, or simple Nutcase for adult helmets.

You can also shop for a good cause at Nutcase. They have some very cool green and yellow helmets on sale that benefit The Harrington Family Foundation. The Foundation believes every child has a right to receive a quality education and proper health care in a safe and nurturing community. You can protect your child’s brain and help support children in need – a win win all around.

And one more thing….If you are into winter sports – they make snow sport helmets too.

At Sweet Peas & Stilettos I have always loved to feature companies that have a charitable cause and the core of their company. Lusso Bags is one of my latest finds that does just that. They create cute, practical products and they have found a way to make a difference in the world too.

This super handy shoe bag (pictured above) is “made in Kolkata, India, of eco-friendly and fair trade (ECOCERT) 100% organic cotton by women that have traded a life in the sex trade, for a new life as a seamstress. Each bag is sewn with love and care, and just five bags pays one day of honest wages, medical insurance, and childcare for one woman.” How wonderful is that!

They also make these adorable baby bags that you can use for all of those miscellaneous items in your diaper bag. This set is the ‘girl’ version and they have a ‘boy’ set too. You can feel great about any Lusso Bags purchase you make because they give back 5% of sales to help fight human trafficking. “Help a Little…Help a Lot” every time you purchase Lusso designs.

Feed 15 Clarins Pouch

Monday, August 22nd, 2011

One of the latest items from FEED is the new FEED 15 Pouch made in collaboration with Clarins. This very handy pouch is made from 100% white organic cotton and is accented with the signature Clarins red. The pouch comes filled with some of Clarins most popular products – Moisture-Rich Body Lotion, Hand and Nail Treatment Cream, and Instant Light Natural Lip Perfector. Fabulous beauty products and a great little bag you can use for just about everything, all for $30 – love it!

Of course the very best part of every FEED purchase is the impact it makes to help people in need. Each FEED 15 Clarins Pouch provides 15 school meals to the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP). I can’t think of a better back-to-school purchase.

Tane Organics

TANE Organics uses on the purest, most luxurious natural fibers in their gorgeous collection of clothes for infants. One of my favorite things about TANE is the palate of colors they use for every piece in their collection. As nice as primary colors are, we don’t always need bright prints and  bold colors to permeate every item of clothing in our children’s closets. Thoughtfully, these hues were actually inspired by the tempera paints used in Renaissance frescos. These clothes are meant to keep your child in luxurious comfort.

In 2010 TANE Organics launched the I AM THE WORLD campaign. Each season, a specially designed product is dedicated to this campaign, where 100% of sales from the item will be allocated to the Remote Classrooms International, in conjunction to funding local organizations focused on children’s education. This adorable 8″ crocheted globe rattle is made from 100% organic cotton by artisans in the hills of Arequipa, Peru. The globe “celebrates the joy of childhood, the playfulness of a simple design, and the closeness of the world in our hands.” Visit TANE organics today – I am certain you will find something special for your little one.

Everyday Shea Bubble Bath

Monday, June 27th, 2011

I popped into Whole Foods this afternoon to pick up a few random things. Top on my list was bubble bath for my son. I was in a bit of a hurry and without much thought I picked out this EveryDay Shea bubble bath. I guess I picked it for two reason – I liked the fact that it smelled like mint and also, it was one of the least expensive options on the shelf. I must tell you – it was such a great purchase.

With one cap full of soap the bathtub was completely full of bubbles. My son was thrilled. He hid his boats and animals in the tub and loved the fact that they would ‘go missing’ under the thick fog of bubbles covering his little ocean. The bubble bath has a really clean minty smell (not like a strong breathe mint or anything – just kind of fresh and clean minty) and makes incredibly long lasting bubbles. While my son was splashing and playing I started to read the label and began to love this product, and the company that made it, even more.

Here is the scoop, “EveryDay Shea is an extension of Alaffia Sustainable Skin Care. Alaffia was founded by Olowo-n’djo Tchala, a Togolese native, as a way to generate funds to conduct community enhancement projects in his home country and other West African nations in order to reduce poverty and gender inequality….This bubble bath supports the Alaffia Healthy Baby Program, which provides nutrition and health care for babies in central Togo during their critical first 18 months in an effort to reduce child mortality and malnutrition rates. According to UNICEF, 27% of children in Togo under the age of 5 suffer from stunting, and over 20,000 children die every year. Studies show that improved nutrition has a significant impact on a child’s quality of life and their ability to rise out of poverty during their lifetime.”

Needless to say I will be buying the shampoo, conditioner, body wash, lotion… name it…

Shoe Auction for Charity

Thursday, June 16th, 2011

I love fabulous shoes, I love supporting great charities, and what I love most of all is being able to combine my favorite passions together. CharityBuzz and Soles4Souls have put together the winning combination with an incredible celebrity shoe action that is open through next week, June 22nd.

These gorgeous Brain Atwood heels are signed by one of our very favorite modern mommies, Sarah Jessica Parker. They are valued at $800 and it looks like you can get them for a fraction of that. Best part of all – the proceeds go to charity (guilt free shopping at its best!!)

The Kardashians know how to rock their stilettos. Kim, Khloe and Kourtney have all signed these ShoeDazzle platform heels.

And if you are in need of a last minute Father’s Day gift – there are tons of cool shoes from the biggest sports stars ranging from Roger Federer to Alex Rodriguez.
