dot complicated

I was thrilled to be a guest contributor for the latest issue of Dot Complicated. Randi Zuckerberg and her team (special thank you to Ashmi!) have put together a great newsletter full of useful tips to help us all “untangle our wired, wonderful lives” and I shared some of my favorite technology solutions for grandparents. If you haven’t signed up already, here is your personal invitation to join Dot Complicated.

Donna Karan & Me!

Alisa and Donna Karan at SF Ballet Saks Fifth Avenue fashion show

Can you guess who I am talking to here in this photo? YES – It is me and Donna Karan! She is such an amazing woman and it was wonderful to get to talk to her last month in San Francisco. I first met Donna Karan at an event almost 20 years ago and I remember walking into the cocktail party in Las Vegas and noticed that there were only 2 people in the room wearing tennis shoes – me and Donna Karan. (At least mine were Paladiums I had picked up in Monaco…and I remember hers were white canvas sneakers that looked utterly perfect with her ensemble.)

Fast forward all these years and this time I actually got to speak with her about her incredibly talented late husband, Stephan Weiss, and the work she is doing to continue to share his artistic works. (He designed her very first perfume bottle if you remember…) We also talked at length about the phenomenal work she and her team are doing in Haiti. You may have noticed that her recent ad campaigns were all photographed on location in Haiti. Donna was wearing this fabulous dress for the occasion and the fabric was designed by Haitian artists and the incredibly cool black leather and wood jewelry she was wearing was also made in Haiti. And the white leather jacket on her shoulders was amazing too I might add. I mentioned my love of shopping for a good cause and she reminded me of the work she and her team are doing through her Urban Zen Foundation. Check out their website to learn more.

I wanted everything Donna was wearing and even more I wanted her passion, fearlessness and love of life. Donna Karan – the mom, the grandmother, the wife, the artist, the business tycoon, the philanthropist – she is an incredible inspiration to us all.

Donna Karan and girls at SF Ballet Saks fashion show

So here are me and the girls with gorgeous Donna in the middle. We are at the Ritz Carlton for the Donna Karan fashion show benefitting the San Francisco Ballet. The collection was amazing, the food delicious and it was great to be able to support such a wonderful cause as the ballet.

Huge thank you to Drew Altizer Photography for the great pics and to my friends Rhonda and Lillian for inviting me to join them for the lovely afternoon in the city.

TOSS Designs

Toss Designs

Have you ever stepped foot into a store for the first time and kind of freaked out in excitement. You are so giddy and happy and overwhelmed by all of the cute things you just don’t know where to start. The store kind of whisks you away to another very happy and wonderful place and you find yourself just standing there smiling wishing you could just wrap the whole place up and take it home. Or better yet – just move in.  It has happened to me. Not often, but a few times. The Kate Spade boutique at the Stanford Mall definitely elicits that reaction from me, especially after their most recent remodel. The bold colors, the sparkle, the pretty perfectly stacked boxes that line the walls and all of my favorite accessories everywhere – it is such a happy place for me. And the Jonathan Adler store on Fillmore street in San Francisco makes me over the moon happy too. I just want to jump on a couch, grab a cold beverage and a fabulous art book or two and hang out all day long.

A few weeks ago I found a new store that made me equally dizzy with excitement – Toss Designs. I LOVE this store! The Toss store I visited was in Town & Country in Palo Alto (boy has that place changed since my undergrad days at Stanford!) but they also have locations in other wonderful places in Northern California like San Francisco, San Anselmo, St Helena and Corte Madera. The store is bursting with all of my favorite color combinations – lots of orange and blue and green and pink. It has a cool resort vibe to it with added dashes of sparkle, attitude and great sense of humor.

Toss Designs makes super cool bags and totes in all shapes and sizes that are incredibly well priced, and they are overflowing with unique gifts for all of your girlfriends. Every bride should shop at Toss for all of her bridesmaid gifts! Needless to say I could barely contain my excitement…I had found my new favorite store.

Now for the drum roll…..I am so so so thrilled to announce that you will very soon be able to purchase Sweet Peas & Stilettos infant onesies at Toss! I thought they were perfect for the store and I was happy that I was able to çonvince their buyer too. So please please visit Toss and check out the onesies and all of the other super fabulous merchandise. I hope I can sell lots and lots of onesies there so I can buy absolutely everything else in their store.

And for those of you who don’t live in Northern California – don’t worry – you can shop the Toss online store

Fresh Party Invitations from Minted

I’m on TV!

Thursday, August 18th, 2011

I had so much fun being a guest on the Moms Are Talking! TV Show. Luckily, I like to talk so when they invited me to be on their show, I had to say yes. The shows hosts, Michelle, Amy and Susan, were great. They asked me questions about Sweet Peas & Stilettos, how I started a company while working full-time, and how I keep my sanity. I also got a chance to show off my new line of baby onesies. If you have a few minutes, you can watch the show online. A huge thank you to everyone at Moms Are Talking!
