SJP collection shoes

I know I am not the only girl out there who pulled out her iPad at midnight last night to check out Sarah Jessica Parker’s (the ultimate sweet pea and stiletto loving modern mommy!) SJP Shoe Collection at Nordstom… I fell in love with these online last night and today I popped over to Nordstrom on my lunch hour to try them on. So cute!! Love the ’70s vibe, the colors are just perfect together and I must say they were incredibly comfortable too. Not sure why she waiting so so so long to launch her new line but I must say it was worth the wait. Now I just need to decide if I should get the black and grey ones too…

TOMS Black Wool Stripe Women's Nepal Boots

With fall right around the corner it is time to shop for a new pair of boots. I’ve been on the hunt for some super comfortable everyday boots and I think I found exactly what I am looking for at TOMS. These wonderful Black Wool Stripe Women’s Nepal Boots will keep your toes warm all winter long with a super soft fleece lining. And how cool is the combination of suede, wool and moccasin-inspired whip stitching? This just might be the season to let your Uggs take a little rest on your closet floor…

High Heel High Tops

Wednesday, June 26th, 2013

I am not sure if I would actually wear these high tops but I found them to be rather fun and quite perfect for the stiletto loving woman who is not in the mood to actually wear a pair of heels. These Maison Dumain by Be&D Trompe L’Oeil High Top Sneakers are a great gift for the girl who has everything – including a sense of humor. Timing couldn’t be better – right now they are on clearance so you can save a bundle too.

Varca Sandals

Tuesday, June 18th, 2013

I certainly wasn’t expecting to find my next pair of must have shoes in the Wall Street Journal….but alas…I must thank the WSJ for spotlighting these wonderful Varca Sandals in their recent guide to summer. They are available in lots of vibrant colors and I think I will definitely need a pair of the silver ones too. I don’t know about you, but I don’t always want to put my toes on full display and I just love that a hint of your toes can get a little fresh air and you can still get away wearing them with your less than perfect pedicure. They even make them for kids too.

Kids' Kiko+™ ashiato animal footprint toy sandals

Looking for a little summer fun for the kids? How cool are these Kiko+™ ashiato animal footprint toy sandals? I just stumbled across them in the lastest J. Crew catalog and was immediately smitten. Your kids can make super fun foot prints while they walk up and down the beach. You can pick them up in monkey, cat and dinosaur versions online at J. Crew and your children will be able to create a whole zoo on the sand. They would also make great summer birthday gifts for boys and girls alike.

Salvatore Ferragamo Shoe Jewelry

Sunday, April 14th, 2013

How fabulous is this Salvatore Farragamo shoe charm? I must have one. It is from their Miniature Precious Collection and is made of 18k gold and gemstones. Believe it or not, but this iconic rainbow shoe was created way back in 1938 for Judy Garland. I have had a postcard of this famous shoe in my office for years and I just love the idea of being able to wear it around my neck.  There are a number of other great shoes in the jewelry collection including these three below. Perfect gifts for shoe loving girls who have everything…

Jimmy Choo Mila Cutout

Sunday, February 24th, 2013

I just stumbled upon these fantastic Jimmy Choo Mila Cutout mirrored leather pumps tonight while I was window shopping on Net-a-Porter while I was watching the Academy Awards. How is that for multi-taking? I am a sucker for silver and these shoes are just so cute. I know it is a cliche, but they really will go with everything. The lower heels is wonderful too for days when you want more than a flat but aren’t ready to slip on your stilettos.

Tory Burch Spring Shoes

Tory Burch Spring Shoes 2013

Love love love love love my new Tory Burch ‘Gia’ wedges! They are simply fabulous. I have been on a multi-year hunt for the perfect pair of neutral colored shoes that I could wear with both pants and dresses and I finally found them. I couldn’t be happier! The leather almost looks like lace with the intricate cut-outs.  And I just love the dainty scalloped edges too. The wedges are made with natural jute which give them a dressed up espadrille look – a perfect example of casual elegance. Also, with the wedge styling you get some added height with incredible comfort.  Undoubtedly, I will be wearing these every day.

Style Tips from Anya Sarre

Creating a Trendy Look on a Budget in 2013 by Anya Sarre

The coming year can be just as much fun as you are willing to make it. Great fashion is essential, but filling out your wardrobe with trendy separates and accessories may look challenging if you have a restricted budget. Be strategic as you plan your fashion steps this year. Make every fashion dollar count by making the most of your existing clothing and accessory items. Shop carefully as you follow the trends closely.

The benefit of online retail is obvious when it comes to knowing what styles will be at the forefront. If you don’t have a lot of money to spend on new trends, though, this can be discouraging. Don’t fret. Rather, start with contemporary favorites like StyleMint and ShoeDazzle to see what’s being stocked, what’s being put on clearance, and what’s sold out. Check out Stella & Dot and Birchbox for accessory, beauty, and jewelry ideas.

In store inspiration is important as well. A bright color may be popular, but trying it with your complexion will tell whether it’s meant for you. Handle textures and try different separates to get a sense of what works for you. Make notes as you explore. You know your existing wardrobe well enough to know how new components will mix and match. You can try things on to your heart’s content. This will give you a sense of what to buy when the funds are available. Forever 21 is one of the best spots for discovering great options at affordable prices. Old Navy is a favorite of young adults. H&M is another great stop to include in your exploration.

You may be intimidated by the DIY fashion craze. Pinterest may change your mind and revamp your wardrobe. Look for fantastic ideas for making your own shawls, scarves, skirts and bags. Find creative jewelry projects and materials. Don’t miss examples of cute outfits. Nearly every member seems to have a fashion wish list pinned. Whether you want to know what your favorite celebrities are adding to their closets or whether you need some color inspiration, you can track down unique options and pin your favorites.

The new fashion year isn’t always predictable, especially if finances make it tough to shop for yourself. Do your research so that you know what pieces will effectively work for you. Spend strategically, being willing to create your own accessories and separates.

american consignment company

Featured Modern Mommy of the Week:

Sally Miller from San Jose, California is mom to 2 year-old Charlotte and also a budding entrepreneur. She has left corporate America behind to launch her own consignment business, American Consignment Company.

Tell us about your favorite pair of shoes:

My favorite shoes have to be my summer wedges. I bought them in London at a UK store called Russell & Bromley. They look great with jeans and yet are incredibly comfortable. I purchased these shoes over 5 years ago and have worn them many, many times since but they are still going strong!

Tell us about your fabulous business:

I’ve always dreamt about building a business. And when I discovered consignment sales events, I knew I’d found the answer. This was something I could do and feel passionate about.

One of the things I love most about consignment sales is that they offer families a way to make and save money. I’ve met Moms who buy a complete wardrobe for their kids at one event and then sell the entire collection the following year. It’s that easy and a lot of fun!

In starting American Consignment Company, my goal is to hold well organized and friendly events that families look forward to each season. My company values are: Quality, Community, and Convenience. We check all consigned items for quality and only accept boutique and name brands. We organize sellers’ items and display them just like a retail store. An event typically runs for 2 to 3 days over a weekend and features thousands of gently used items at great prices.

I love this business and hope that shoppers and consignors enjoy coming to my events as much as I enjoy organizing the sales for them! The first event will be held March 2-3 in Los Gatos, California. Check out the website for more details.
